When We Meet

Twice weekly meetings will continue throughout the summer on Monday and Wednesday afternoons in the Oakwood Room between the hours of 12:30 and 3:30 pm, while summer residents continue working on the many charity quilts that we are able to donate.

Lessons/Classes

Our group has many talented members that share their talents by providing classes and lessons throughout the fall/winter season.  Our two activity chairpersons keep us all busy with block exchanges, procedure demos, a mystery quilt that is in the works for later in the year, plus other activities to provide interest and variety for all skill levels.

Craft Fairs

There will be large quilts available for sale at the craft shows in March and
November.

What We Do

Sunland Stitchers is a totally charitable organization.  During 2010 it made the following donations/contirbutions:

Cash donations totaling $1500 to United Food Banks, East Mesa Baptist Church Food Bank, Banner Desert Children's Hospital, Cornerstone Hospice House of Refuge, House of Refuge Quilt Group, East Mesa Fire Department and Unlimited Potential.

A total of 128 quilts of various sizes and many knitted/crocheted hats, booties, blankets and other items to Banner Children's Hospital, Cornerstone Hospice and an Alzheimer group. Also, non-monetary donation of  hand-made items such as crocheted and knitted hats, booties, surgical hats, bibs, etc.to some of the same groups listed above.

Raffle QuiltNEW RAFFLE QUILT

The new raffle quilt to be given away at the quilt show on March 17th (2012) was, as usual, a joint effort by our talented quilt group.  The original Dresden pieced blocks were donated by Norma Reynolds as she became unable to finish the quilt.  Marcia Todd was the driving force behind the completion of the quilt with help from Barbara Nicholson who appliqued the "plates" to the background.  Jan Carpenter did the excellent job of machine quilting.  Many others assisted in selecting the fabrics to be used and the binding after it was quilted.

2011 Donations - The funds from the sale of tickets on our fund raisers allowed us to contribute $250 each to the following charities in 2011:  House of Refuge, United Food Bank, East Mesa Baptist Church Food Bank, Cornerstone Hospice, East Mesa Fire Department, Ryan House, Banner Health Foundation , Banner Children's Hospital, and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund.
