NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH OPERATION

Sunland Village East is the only community in North America, to our knowledge, that is 100% organized under the Neighborhood Watch program.  As of January 1, 2003 we list 75 Block Watch groups which involves some 325 volunteers as Block Captains and Assistants.  The Neighborhood Watch program is nation wide and locally is directed by the Mesa Police Department.

Neighborhood Watch has proven to be a great crime deterrent and, in SVE, has in addition added considerably to the quality of life by way of building an esprit de corps among our residents.  If you are new to SVE, we highly recommend that you get in touch with your Block Captain who can assist you to get acquainted with your neighbors and help you to quickly become immersed in our social life.  We love to see newcomers joining our ranks and contributing toward our Village well-being.

Block Watch groups are required to have two social functions of some kind each year.  Many groups within SVE exceed this required minimum and some have get-togethers monthly and sometimes 2-4 groups meet together.  This all helps to expand our friendship base, improves our security, and enhances the pleasure of life in SVE - An Active Community at its Best.

We encourage newcomers and long term residents alike to step forward and volunteer to serve as Block Captains and/or Assistants.  An annual turn-over of leadership benefits us all.  The tasks are light and the benefits many.
